COMING: APRIL 30, 2018

Sporting breeds require high protein formulas that provide nutrients to build and repair muscles. Dogs obtain energy from a combination of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. This formula provides quick energy sources with a select blend of these ingredients and optimal levels of minerals for developing strong bones and teeth, excellent muscle tone, a shiny coat and firm consistent stools.

Our recipes are specifically crafted for Retrievers, Pointers, Agility Dogs, Field Trial & Hunting Dogs, K-9 Dogs

Handlers of Sporting & Working dogs will find our new recipes are unlike anything available in the market today - that is if ALL our goals align - in an honest effort to create a complete diet. That means all the ingredients combined (plus any you might consider compromising) will produce a complete diet for highly active dogs and yield a very specific guaranteed analysis that we are targeting.

We have looked - but we have not been able to identify many pea free options on the market that exceeds 60% animal protein without including one or more of the following ingredients: Potato, Flax, Alfalfa, Beet Pulp or Brewers. We have not been able to find many grain free, peas free, poultry free options that do not choose Chicken Fat or Canola as their fat source.

Buffalo is an easily-digestible protein that helps build and maintain lean muscles.  Compared with commercial Beef & Lamb, water buffalo is a healthier alternative because it is leaner and higher in protein content.

High Protein Wild Caught Catfish is a rich dietary source of protein, containing a healthy amino acid profile that supports digestion

Potatoes for sustained energy

North American Pork

Coconut Oil improves digestion and nutrient absorption. Makes dogs' coats glossy and sleek. The anti-inflammatory properties, from lauric acid, help nourish muscles and aid recovery especially following exercise.

Cassava root flour is used in our grain-free blends as a source of carbohydrate for energy. It also acts as a significant source of the essential minerals iron, manganese, and zinc.

Pumpkin is a fruit that helps neutralize the intestinal tract and ensures firm stool.

Salmon Oil is very high in both EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which are omega-3 fatty acids. Improves the coat and skin, making it soft and shiny.

Chelated minerals to achieve greater absorption & digestibility.

Why did we change?

Why do the formulas have to change?

The simple reason is that we are changing manufacturers. Hamlin is simply not big enough for us.  They use smaller machines. These machines are simply made differently and not designed for higher volume.  As machinery gets larger, processing becomes more complex.  The bigger the machines, the more ingredients it takes to run them efficiently.

Why not just stay where your current formulas were being made?

We want to produce a product that we are proud of.  If we were to stay at our smaller facility, we would continue to have inventory problems and quality control problems and we cannot grow our business under these constraints.

You can find answers to more of your questions here:

How have we improved?

How have our new formulas improved?

Our new formulas contain nearly 90% protein from low ash animal protein. This is 15% more Animal Protein than our original Elite Formulas (that means even less fillers). Other formulas on the market today, from reputable brands, average anywhere between 65%-75% animal protein.

More noticeable upgrades include the use of Zinpro Availa Pet Performance Minerals and Diamond V Probiotics.

  • as much as 90% animal protein
  • Fiber 20% lower
  • Kcals as high as 540 per cup
  • New plant has strict quality control procedures, reliability, and room from growth.

These improvements are important to our loyal sporting & working dog customers.

How are we different?

How are your new formulas different?

We can all agree there are plenty of excellent brands available. We believe you can identify some clear differences by looking a little closer at the ingredients - not just some but all of the ingredients.

Lets take a closer look. You might find great options that work well for your dog if you are trying to eliminate one ingredient like White Potato or Flax but, in our research we found it much more difficult to find a brand that excludes both White Potato and Flax. Options become even more limited if you are looking to eliminate 3 ingredients like White Potato, and Flax, and Peas. While you might get lucky enough to find that Unicorn, we challenge you to look even deeper ... you might quickly identify Alfalfa, Lentils, Beet Pulp or Brewers.

If you want to know the difference between Sport Dog Food and others ... we suggest looking even closer.

  • How much Animal Protein does the formula contain? If it is less than 70%, it is very likely you will find fillers like Peas, Flax, Lentils, or Pomace. What if it is 55% .. what else is in there?
  • Looking for delicious sounding ingredients like Freeze Dried Carrots, Kelp or Zuchinni? Ask the manufacturer the amounts that are actually included in the diet.
  • Does your unicorn contain Menhaden Fish? Tomato Pomace? Brewers? Alfalfa? Canola?
  • Countries like Italy and Canada may have more regulations on Pet Food but just because it is made in Canada, does that guarantee all the ingredients originated from that country?
  • Does your brand split the same ingredient (Yellow Peas, Green Peas, Split Peas or Norkotah Potato and Burbank Potato) so they don't appear higher on the ingredients lists.
  • Just because its not on the bag, it does not always imply it is absent from the food. If you are looking to stay clear of specific ingredients, we strongly recommend inquiring about them.

Not in Here!

You will not find these ingredients in our formulas

We have worked very hard to exclude ALL of the ingredients listed below. While some of them are healthy, most are inexpensive fillers that offer little nutritional value but allow for more profit.

Why is our Ca:P higher than 1.3:1?

Why is our Ca:P higher than 1.3:1?

Our formulas are over 85% from animal protein up to 35% more than most pet specialty dog foods. To achieve a lower calcium, we would need to lower the meat protein. Since we have chosen to not make our food with less expensive fillers like peas, potatoes, flax, etc, our formulas will always have a high percentage of meat protein which is more than most companies.

Special note on Poultry

Special note on Poultry

During the process of creating these formulas, we learned that because chicken fat contains virtually no protein, it's use does not cause allergic reactions associated with the use of fresh chicken or chicken meal, both of which contain high amounts of protein.

We researched 15+ brands and discovered that ALL of their Fish or Beef based formulas (aka "Poultry Free") contained one of the following ingredients: Canola Oil, Chicken Fat, Duck Fat, Whole Egg, Herring Oil, Pork Fat, Sunflower Oil. If you know of a zero-poultry option, that meets ALL of your standards without compromise, please check it against ours too. We are open-minded to all proactive solutions.

For those looking for Poultry free options, please look at our Buffalo Recipes. Herding Dog, Sled Dog, Tracking Dog and Dock Dog.

Special note on Rosemary Extract

Special note on Rosemary Extract

We will be using the natural preservative called Verdilox made by Kemim. We chose Verdilox as preservative because it does not use Citric Acid. It does contain trace amounts of Rosemary Extract.

Like you, we have reviewed how other reputable manufacturers list their antioxidants and it appears that listing "Mixed Tocopherols" might be enough to meet AAFCO requirements.  We even contacted some brands, as an individual via web chat, and asked if their formulas included Rosemary and if so, "why is it not listed on your bag". Here are a few common responses we received "Due to labeling regulations we do have to list it as a "mixed tocopherols" on our ingredient panel. This is because we do not use it as a separate herbal supplement, but rather a preservative."

We are continuing to learn more and will update you as we discover more information on this topic. In the meantime, Naturox is the most widely used antioxidant in the pet market today, therefore it is important to inquire with the manufacturer specifically about Rosemary Extract and Citric Acid.
